I like helping people out and here is one of my favorite things to do, help spec out a New Computer Build. The goal for this is to be inexpensive
(cheap), web browsing, writing papers and research, with the occasional gaming. If we want to focus on gaming we could spend a lot of money on this so instead I’ll provide options on graphics cards for a base build.
New Computer Build 2017 (July)
I only recommend Intel. Been down the other road before.
If you live near a Microcenter I’d recommend picking it up there.
Since we are looking for a little expansion possibly I’ll choose a 500W PSU – EVGA 500 W1, 80+ WHITE 500W, ower Supply 100-W1-0500-KR
Memory – RAM:
I think 16GB you’ll want to target 16GB. Some say it’s over kill but I’d rather have it than not have it.
Cheaper Option because it’s slower memory – Ballistix Sport LT 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) DIMM 288-Pin – BLS2K8G4D240FSB
The more expensive option is the fastest memory the motherboard can handle and might be worth the extra $20 – Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz C16 Desktop Memory Kit – CMK16GX4M2B3200C16
Cheaper Options is 250GB – Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E250B/AM) and then have a data drive for pictures and things you want to store, I really like the WD Red Drives found here.
More Expensive option is 500GB – Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E500B/AM) and I still like having the same data drive for pictures, WD Red Drive found here.
There’s lots of debates here but an entry level graphics card could get you here. Good for MOBA and RTS. Not the best card for Witcher 3 @ 60fps. If you’re not sure what to do for graphics, try running the on board video for a couple weeks and see where your graphic tolerance is at.
