USB Microphone or USB Mics
USB microphones are not the highest in quality but can give the average person a good upgrade over the microphone on your laptop. My personal favorite is the Samson G-Track Pro but it’s a little more than double that of the Blue Snowball. It really depends on what your needs and microphone placement is.
Blue Snowball Ice
This is a good mid range microphone. This only has the Cardoid polar pattern so this will be good at picking up sounds in front of the mic.
This is the next step up from the Blue Snowball Ice. This add Omnidirectional as well as Cardiod patterns for the mic pickup. This will be good at picking up sounds in front of the mic or a conference table with sounds all around.
Here’s the next step up. Really starts to up your game! This adds Bidirectional as well as Cardioid and Omnidirectional patterns. This will be good at picking up sounds in front of the mic or a conference table with sounds all around, and limit just in front of the microphone and backside of the microphone for a 1:1 interview.
Samson G-Track Pro
This is probably the upper limit of mid range microphones. I’ve heard this microphone referenced as the Yeti Killer and I think it lives up to it’s name. This add a 1/4″ Instrument input to plug a guitar pickup or favorite instrument. This has Unidirectional, Bidirectional, Cardioid, and Omnidirectional patterns.
